Fr. John Corridan SJ
Born in 1911, Fr. Corridan worked to end the Longshoreman’s union corruption and fought the organized crime rackets along New York’s tough waterfront. Karl Malden portrayed the character based on Fr. Corridan in the film On the Waterfront. He later taught economics at Syracuse’s LeMoyne College and theology at St. Peter’s College in New Jersey. Fr. Corridan died in the Bronx in 1984.
